Match Result - Horizon 2025 Match No. 26 - Barons Pond Wednesday 15th October - To close the Weekday League for 2025
Six hopeful anglers arrived at Barons Pond in perfect weather conditions for our final Weekday League match of 2025. The wind was still and the water was flat calm with only minor leaf debris on the surface. A tree that had previously been tilting a little more each month had finally fallen in to the lake blocking off two swims.
Surprisingly, there were no bites to be had, until one hour had passed, then Derek finally got us off to a start with a welcome Gudgeon, Derek then went on to get more silvers plus a Common Carp of 5+ lbs.
At midday, John got some wee Roach and Perch to start his day leading to a Mirror Carp of 9 lbs for Biggest Fish of the day.
Julie found a few silvers of a couple of ounces each.
Mike on float had to wait until 1:30 pm for a first bite which turned out to be a Mirror Carp of 6+ lbs and nearly got one more which jumped the hook on seeing the net.
Mick had a ‘so near, but yet so far’ day with three Carp hooked all of which escaped in the overhanging brambles before reaching the net.
At 1 pm Steve thought he was in to his first fish, however that one escaped too, then as 2:30 pm approached Steve started to get regular bites eventually going on to win the match with three Carp to 8+ lbs.
Overall, what seemed like a promising day on our arrival, turned out to be a slow starter, with the Carp taking all morning to stir from their slumber before coming on to feed in the afternoon.
