The regular five anglers turned out on a wet day to take part in our first league match of 2023, to be greeted at the entrance to Barons Pond by a huge muddy puddle which plastered the cars in muck.After the draw, our heroic contestants proceeded to their chosen pegs and peered across the lake to see what looked to be an offspring of the Loch Ness monster floundering out in the middle. This turned our to be a large eel that was in distress, maybe it was trying to digest a meal of spiky perch, later on as the eel came close to the bank, Steve tried to rescue it but there was little he could do.Thankfully, the rain subsided to become occasional patches of light drizzle over the whole match.Mick quickly got on to the silvers whilst the rest struggled to get a bite, after some hours Steve also got amongst the silvers, then Mick had a Mirror Carp of 8 lbs 8 ozs.At 2:30 pm Mike finally got a bite to land a Mirror Carp of 8 lbs 7 ozs, quickly followed by a nice Roach of 8 ozs. Pete and Julie then got into their first bites to land a few silvers of mainly Roach.So far this season we have had three matches (two fun/social and one league) and Mick has won them all!, so come on boys & girls we need more contenders out on the bank to give Mick a bit of competition, as we ‘duffers’ are turning out to be no match for him.
